Seattle is the No. 4 healthiest place out of the 150 largest U.S. metros, according to WalletHub in a report that aims to quantify that somewhat nebulous concept. But it's an important concept for economic and real estate growth: places known to be healthy tend to attract young talent.
To determine places that prioritize residents’ well-being, WalletHub compared cities across 34 key indicators of good health. Its data set included “cost of doctor visit,” “fruit and vegetable consumption” and “fitness clubs per capita,” among others.
San Francisco turned out to be the healthiest metro, followed by Salt Lake City, Scottsdale, Ariz., and then Seattle — which topped Portland, Ore., by a single place. The least healthy city? Detroit.
